Over 3 years and counting since the last Chrome Kids party in Cardiff, but now one of the city's most celebrated and respected stalwarts of forward thinking Electronic Music return to their home turf with a special line up for Independent Venue Week.
"I got approached to do this gig as SnowSkull for Independent Venue Week. I thought about how I wanted to do something special, something a bit different. I wanted it to be eclectic, like your experiencing a live version of our radio show but also wanted to focus on live electronic performance, so we are showcasing some of our favourite artists and the only DJ playing on the night is Kaptin who will also be hosting."
On the night will be…
Face+Heel are Luke Taylor and Sinead McMillan; a Welsh born duo now based in the culturally rich city of Bristol. Following their appearance on Boiler Room and media support from Dazed, FACT, XLR8R, Wonderland, The FADER, Dummy and many more, duo Face+Heel have been locked away working on their debut full length album; 'Our Prince's Quarry', which is out 4th March 2016 on Dekalog. The first taster from the album comes by way of 'Mansions', a brand new track/video. Watch it herehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsCGUWkREk0.
The album perfectly showcases their brand of downbeat, minimal electronica, combined with McMillan's gorgeous, atmospheric vocal to create layer upon layer of sonic serenity. This will be a perfect opportunity to experience some of the new material played live, alongside some of their well lauded previous offerings.
With his newest release due out next week on Montreal label Box Records, Manchester based Morris Cowan (real name Adam Taylor) will be making his debut appearance in the Welsh Capital.
Morris Cowan carves out a distinctive style of colourful electronic music, drawing from House, Techno, Dub, Minimal, Classical and Post-Rock. He is an exciting and unique new talent, producing forward-thinking and hugely rewarding electronic music, which appeals to music-lovers regardless of affiliation. He is a core member of the much hyped Nottingham-based Wigflex imprint, and a resident for Sleep / Walk / Listen.
Kaptin Is Dead
Not only a founding Chrome Kids member and host of the long running radio show (including their takeover on BBC Radio 1), but also Head Of Music at BoomTown Fair and a well respected DJ in his own right who is a regular at festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival, Secret Garden Party and of course BoomTown. He shall be digging deep into some of his favourite Electronic Music for this one.
Falcon Lake, a former Cardiff resident, is back in town to unleash an arsenal of new, unreleased material. Falcon Lake (real name Leon Piers) aims to create the perfect balance between organic and mechanical sounds, blending real world samples with a suite of electronic instruments. His atmospheric beat driven tracks have received support from BBC Introducing and BBC Radio Wales and have seen Piers release on labels including Glyph Recordings and the online mega blog Bad Panda Records.
Cross genre experimental producer and founder of One Good Thing…Alfie Swan will be performing with a live 404 set previewing some forthcoming material due for release in 2016 & maybe a few bootleg edits that you won’t hear anywhere else. This will be his first live set in over two years, so don't miss out.
Phantom Islands is the latest alias adopted by Leone Vuetivalagi. formerly 'Leone', whom some might remember playing at previous Chrome Kids events back in the Cardiff Arts Institute days.
Taking inspiration from the myths and stories early sailors would tell of phantom islands they had discovered whilst exploring unchartered waters, Phantom Islands uses dense soundscapes and found sounds interspersed with melodies and beats that fade away as suddenly as they appear.
